CHULA VISTA, Calif. (AP) - Police in San Diego County say a 14-year-old high school student was arrested for going to school with a loaded gun.

Chula Vista police Lt. Fritz Reber said police responded Wednesday after students at Hilltop High School reported that the boy was showing off the revolver and saying he could potentially use it to shoot someone at school.

Reber says officers went to the boy’s classroom and arrested the 9th grade student after finding a loaded .44-caliber handgun in a backpack in his possession.

Police believe the boy brought the gun from home.

Reber says the student remains in custody and detectives are getting search warrants on various locations tied to the case.

Police says it appears so far that the student acted alone and there are no other suspects.
