FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Fire officials say a 5-year-old boy has died after a fire swept through his home in Fayetteville.

Fayetteville Fire Department Battalion Chief Ron Lewis said Zion Lilly died from injuries suffered in the fire.

Firefighters were called around 1:15 a.m. Thursday.

Assistant Chief Nixon Spell said firefighters were told a child was trapped inside. Firefighters found the child and brought him out.

The child was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he died.

Two adults and seven children were inside the home. Three children were taken to the hospital. There was no word on their conditions.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
