SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Family and friends will remember a Vermillion girl on the anniversary of the day she and a friend disappeared in 1971.

The Press & Dakotan reports a memorial service for Cheryl Miller is scheduled at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 29, at First Baptist Church in Vermillion.

Authorities ruled last month that she and Pamella Jackson were killed May 29, 1971, when their Studebaker drove off a gravel road and landed in a creek near Alcester. The car and their remains were found last fall.

Since it was ruled an accident, South Dakota’s attorney general has asked to unseal three court documents from the now-closed criminal investigation. Court documents have been filed regarding that request but no hearing has been scheduled.
