DARRINGTON, Wash. (AP) - Washington Gov. Jay Inslee has approved an additional $25,000 in state aid to upgrade and repair the Darrington Timberbowl Rodeo Grounds, where an annual rodeo is scheduled for June 21.

The governor’s office said Wednesday that the work will include updating electrical hookups and repairing old fencing around the main arena and the fairgrounds perimeter.

The rodeo is a major tourism draw for the area. It will also be one of the first large public events in Darrington since the deadly March 22 mudslide that hit the nearby community of Oso, killing 43 people.

Inslee’s office says the money is in addition to a $150,000 state economic recovery grant awarded May 6.
