COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say a Richland County jail guard has been arrested after selling a cellphone and a charger to an inmate for $125.

Sheriff Leon Lott said 34-year-old Valshawn Frazier is charged with misconduct in office and contraband.

The sheriff says Frazier sold the phone to the prisoner in April and it was found during a random search. Lott says an investigation traced the phone back to the guard.

Cellphones are banned items for inmates because they allow them uncontrolled communication with people outside of prisons.

Jail records did not indicate whether Frazier had a lawyer.
