NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a man is dead after being ambushed by his girlfriend’s husband inside a minivan and then struck by a pickup truck after being left of the side of a New Smyrna Beach road

Police say 38-year-old Darrell Fitzwater Jr. and 52-year-old Donna Lynam were riding in the van early Thursday. They say Lynam’s husband - 55-year-old Donald Kurt Lynam - had been hiding in the back of the van and began fighting with Fitzwater.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal (https://bit.ly/1k0OaMk ) reports Fitzwater stopped the van and the fight continued on the side of the road. Donald Lynam pushed his wife back into the van and drove away. A pickup truck struck and killed Fitzwater.

Donald Lynam is in jail, charged with battery, false imprisonment and tampering with a witness.
