COLUMBUS, Miss. (AP) - A graduation party turned deadly at the Columbus Fairgrounds on highway 69 South.

Police were called after a fight erupted around 12:05 a.m. Friday in the pavilion, triggering 19-year-old Kale Scott, of Columbus, to allegedly pull a gun and start shooting.

Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant says a bullet struck 21-year-old Devin Lamar Montgomery in the back. He died at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Another person was shot in the leg.

Witnesses tell WCBI-TV (https://bit.ly/1ic31nq ) that Montgomery was shot while others were trying to break up the fight.

Police say Scott apparently fled the scene and authorities are searching for him.

Anyone with information on Scott’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Columbus Police Department.
