HADDAM, Conn. (AP) - Police say a body found in the Connecticut River in Haddam is a Hartford man missing since he fell into the water May 3.

Hartford Deputy Chief Brian Foley said Friday evening that 33-year-old Ricky Cruz was identified through fingerprint records. His body was found by two kayakers Thursday afternoon on the west bank of the river, about a half-mile south of the Haddam Meadows boat launch.

Foley said Cruz was fishing on the west bank south of Adrian’s Landing, when he went into the water to try to retrieve some keys a woman had dropped in the water. He said Cruz was caught up in the swift current. Witnesses saw him struggle before he was swept away.

Search and rescue teams, including the Hartford police dive team had been unable to find him.
