HARRINGTON PARK, N.J. (AP) - CSX officials say a freight train struck and killed a person on the company’s tracks in northern New Jersey.

The accident occurred around 9 p.m. Friday night in Harrington Park.

CSX spokeswoman Melanie Cost told The Record (https://bit.ly/SwvFd3) that the 16-car train was heading from Newark to Selkirk, N.Y., carrying a mix of freight when it struck a pedestrian. But she said further details on the victim, including their name and gender, were not immediately available.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

No other injuries were reported in the accident.
