COEYMANS, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a man beat up his ex-girlfriend before stealing her boat and leading a chase down the Hudson River near Albany.

The Times-Union reports (https://bit.ly/1mldfGq ) 37-year-old Garret Auer is being held without bail after arraignment Saturday.

He’s charged with criminal contempt, grand larceny, resisting arrest, harassment and criminal possession of a weapon.

Police say Auer assaulted his ex-girlfriend in a Coeymans restaurant around 11 p.m., Friday and then fled in the boat as officers ordered him to surrender.

They say the Greenville man violated an order of protection barring him from contact with his ex-girlfriend.
