DETROIT (AP) - Authorities are investigating the death of a 9-year-old boy who was found hanging in his Detroit home.

The circumstances surrounding the boy’s death weren’t immediately clear.

Mary Mazur, a spokeswoman for the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office, says the boy was pronounced dead late Saturday at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan. The Detroit Free Press reports (https://on.freep.com/1lM9Ahy ) that an autopsy was conducted Sunday.

Mazur says the boy’s next-of-kin hadn’t formally identified his body as of Sunday afternoon.

Ed Ramey, who lives down the block from the boy and his family, told the newspaper that a mass of squad cars drew neighbors from their homes Saturday night. He says authorities were performing CPR on the boy and that he heard the mother yell.
