SAWMILLS, N.C. (AP) - Authorities say a 52-year-old man has died after he was struck by a car and killed on the same Caldwell County road where he was seriously injured after being hit by a car less than three years ago.

Investigators told the News-Topic of Lenoir (https://bit.ly/1p7UCJ6 ) that 52-year-old Gary Von Lunsford was hit from behind Friday night while walking home from the store on U.S. Highway 321-A near Sawmills.

Authorities say Lunsford was wearing dark clothing and was in the roadway and the driver who struck him will not be charged.

In June 2011, investigators say Lunsford was walking home in the same stretch of road wearing dark clothing and headphones when he was hit by an SUV. His family says he spent two weeks in a coma before recovering.
