ALEXANDER CITY, Ala. (AP) - A grand jury has decided not to indict an Alexander City police officer in a fatal shooting outside a restaurant in early March.

District Attorney Paul E. Jones said Thursday that Tommy Manesse has been exonerated in the death of 21-year-old Emerson Crayton, who was fatally shot outside a Huddle House restaurant.

Crayton’s relatives and Montgomery attorney Julian McPhillips say they’re disappointed in the grand jury’s decision and will continue with a civil suit.

Crayton’s relatives have said he was shot after arguing with a waitress and sitting in his car while preparing to leave the restaurant.

Jones says charges may be filed against some of the witnesses in the case because their testimonies conflict with video of the incident.
