TRUCKEE, Calif. (AP) - A Truckee man has been arrested as a suspect in the death of his 88-year-old mother.

Nevada County sheriff’s deputies say 61-year-old David Jenkins was booked Tuesday on suspicion of two felony charges - second-degree murder and cruelty to elders with great bodily injury.

Deputies say they found his mother, Nellie Mulligan, dead about 8:15 p.m. Tuesday in an apartment she shared with her son on Martis Valley Road.

Truckee police now are investigating and an autopsy is pending. There was no obvious cause of death but authorities say poor living conditions suggest that neglect may have played a role.
