FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) - The bodies of two Alaska State Troopers shot to death in a remote village this week are set to arrive to Fairbanks and will be accompanied by a procession of troopers from the airstrip to the funeral home.
According to the troopers, the bodies of 26-year-old Gabriel “Gabe” Rich and 45-year-old Sgt. Patrick “Scott” Johnson will arrive from Anchorage to Fairbanks at about 4 p.m. on Saturday.
19-year-old Nathanial Lee Kangas of Tanana has been arrested in connection with the killing. His father, Arvin Kangas, also was arrested. Charges are expected to be filed today.
Officials say the troopers arrived in Tanana to serve an arrest warrant on the elder Kangas. While they were placing him under arrest, a struggle erupted and the younger Kangas shot them.
