KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) - A 15-year-old boy has been charged with murder in the fatal shooting of a 13-year-old boy in Kalamazoo following an argument and fight between a large group of people.

Kalamazoo County Prosecutor Jeffrey Getting announced during a news conference Thursday that the teenager will face open murder and felony firearm charges. A hearing is Tuesday. Getting says he hasn’t decided whether to prosecute the boy as a juvenile or adult.

Michael Day, who was in eighth grade at Milwood Middle School, was shot around 7 p.m. Monday.

Police told Kalamazoo Gazette that Day was shot previously in the back the night of April 6. He told officers then he had just left a party.

A rally is planned at 6 p.m. on Sunday, which would have been Day’s 14th birthday.
