GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - A Harrison County judge has sentenced a man to serve 12 years in prison for driving impaired and causing an accident that left a woman disfigured a woman.

Circuit Judge Roger Clark sentenced Nicholas Alan Patry, 28, to 20 years with eight years suspended. Clark also ordered five years of post-release supervision for Patry.

The Sun Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1jzCKz2 ) that Patry was convicted in March 26. He was sentenced Thursday. Assistant District Attorney Mitch Owen said Patry’s blood-alcohol level was 0.15 percent, nearly twice the legal limit after the crash Dec. 3, 2011.

Authorities say 44-year-old Cynthia Grammer’s car was hit while she was driving home from work.

She had broken bones in a leg and an arm and required surgery for cuts on her face. She also suffered brain damage that affects her memory. Grammer now walks with the use of a cane.

Patry, then a Seabee, testified he had been drinking beer and shooting pool at a friend’s house, but said he wasn’t too drunk to drive. He said he had taken a nap.

“I can remember seeing headlights in my lane, hitting the brakes and that’s it,” Grammer said Thursday.
