PHOENIX (AP) - A stretch of the Loop 101 freeway in northern metro Phoenix will be temporarily closed Friday to make way for the funeral procession for a police officer who was fatally shot in a traffic stop.

Transportation officials say the closure of eastbound Loop 101 between 75th Avenue and Seventh Street will begin at 11 a.m.

The procession is being held for 37-year-old Officer Jair Cabrera of the Salt River Police Department.

Authorities say Cabrera was shot Saturday morning by a drunken driver who was pulled over by the officer.

Transportation officials are advising drivers to adjust their travel plans between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and use alternate routes.

Sections of the freeway will be reopened after the procession has passed.
