NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - Police say a 66-year-old man is in on life support after his heart suddenly stopped working because of an assault by two men in New Haven.

Police say Francisco Ray was knocked unconscious by the suspects who fled on a bicycle at around 8 p.m. Friday.

The victim had suffered a cardiac arrest either during or following the assault and is now in critical condition at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Several people who witnessed the attack on Chapel Street described the assailants to police and an officer spotted them almost immediately.

Police arrested 32 -year-old Todd Traver and 30-year-old Christopher Laugne.

The Waterbury residents have been charged with assault in the first degree and conspiracy to commit assault in the first degree. It was not immediately clear if they have attorneys.
