BERLIN (AP) - A former referee who was imprisoned for his part in a German match-fixing scandal nearly a decade ago is becoming technical director at a fourth-tier club.
Berliner AK 07 said on its website Saturday that 34-year-old Robert Hoyzer will work for the club on a voluntary basis and will be responsible mainly for marketing, sales and communication.
Club president Mehmet Ali Han said: “We should finally let the past rest and look forward together.” Berliner AK said Hoyzer’s main job is with a software company.
Hoyzer admitted fixing games in 2005, and was then convicted of fraud and sentenced to 29 months in prison. He was admitted to a Berlin prison in May 2007 and released after 14 months.
