JAMES ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - Charleston County sheriff’s deputies are still trying to piece together what sent five middle school students from James Island to the hospital.

The Fort Johnson Middle School students, who are 13 and 14 years old, were taken to the hospital after they fell sick at school on Thursday. The school nurse said the speech of one of the girls was slurred and her blood pressure elevated.

It’s not clear what the pills, thought to be medication, were. But in an incident report released Friday one of the girls told deputies she stole them from a neighbor.
