MEDIA, Pa. (AP) - A Philadelphia-area man who came to the U.S. to pursue the American dream will instead go to prison for killing his wife.

Winlaw Mazirwa says he had hoped to give his three children a better life. He is a U.S. citizen from South Africa.

Police say he shot wife Daisy Jambawo during a 2012 argument at their Tinicum home after she told him to “act like a man.”

The Delaware County Daily Times (https://goo.gl/2HRO0y) reports that Mazirwa had worked as a Delaware County prison guard.

A defense lawyer says his 39-year-old client had been abusing pain medication after being injured at work.

Mazirwa is going to prison for 12-1/2 to 25 years.

Delaware County Judge George Pagano told the defendant Friday that he should remain part of his children’s lives.
