ORLEANS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a man has been fatally shot after leading police on a chase through two western Michigan counties and opening fire on officers.
The Grand Rapids Press and WOOD-TV report the man was shot in a field in Ionia County’s Orleans Township, about 25 miles northeast of Grand Rapids. The chase took place Sunday in Ionia and Montcalm counties.
Police say the man - identified Monday as 31-year-old Steven Goble of Lake Odessa - died at the scene. Authorities haven’t said if he was killed by officers or himself.
The chase started Sunday afternoon in Ionia County following a domestic violence incident. Police used stop sticks to disable his vehicle and he fled, carrying a gun.
Police say he fired at officers while being chased. No officers were injured.
