ORONO, Maine (AP) - Two adults and a 2-year-old child were injured when a thick tree limb fell on their SUV as they drove down an Orono street during a rainstorm.

All three people were taken to the hospital with injuries that are not considered life threatening.

Police say the vehicle driven by 33-year-old Isis Bell-Smith was headed south on Main Street at about 4 p.m. Sunday when the tree trunk fell on the roof of the vehicle. The trunk was about a foot in diameter.

Bell-Smith’s husband, 30-year-old Ryan Laracy, escaped on his own, but the woman and little girl were trapped and firefighters had to cut the tree off the vehicle to remove them.

Police say the child suffered some sort of neck injury.
