BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a 13-year-old boy whose body was found in a Buffalo field was killed.

Mayor Byron Brown on Monday promised that police would work around-the-clock to find Ameer Al Shammari’s killer.

Police declined to release the exact cause of the boy’s death following Monday’s autopsy.

The Buffalo News (https://bit.ly/1jvrVSU ) reports that an iPhone that Ameer’s parents had recently given him had been stolen from him on Friday. Family friends say they believe Ameer may have followed the thieves to try to get the phone back.

His body was found in a former golf park Saturday afternoon.

A family friend says the Al Shammaris are Iraqi refugees who arrived in the United States 18 months ago.
