BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Police in Buffalo have charged a 13-year-old with killing another boy in a dispute over a cell phone.

The suspect pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder Tuesday. Police say he’s admitted to the killing.

He was arraigned the same day as 13-year-old victim Ameer Al Shammari’s funeral.

The boy’s body was found in a field Saturday, a day after he was last seen. Family friends say his new iPhone had been stolen from him Friday, and he may have been trying to get it back when he disappeared.

Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda says investigators believe the killing was related to the phone but he declined to elaborate.

Ameer immigrated to the U.S. with his Iraqi family 18 months ago.

The Associated Press isn’t naming the suspect because of his age.
