PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A Massachusetts man has pleaded no contest to charges that he killed his girlfriend when he crashed his car while drunk and fleeing police in Rhode Island.

Brandon Borge, of Fall River, Massachusetts, entered the plea Tuesday in Superior Court in Providence to charges of driving to endanger, death resulting and driving under the influence, death resulting.

Borge’s girlfriend, 34-year-old Barbara Ellis, was killed in April 2012 during the high speed chase. Ellis was trapped and died in the car after it hit a concrete wall. Borge lost both legs.

The two had lived together in Attleboro, Massachusetts.

Prosecutors recommended a sentence of no more than 10 years. His sentencing is set for July 8.
