EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) - A southwestern Illinois man is jailed on $250,000 bond after being accused of beating his 6-year-old stepson with a curtain rod and belt because of the child’s behavior on a bus.

The Belleville New-Democrat (https://bit.ly/1lVKhNB) reports 22-year-old Jessie Garcia of Godfrey is charged in Madison County with aggravated battery of a child.

Investigators say the alleged battering happened after the boy got in trouble for standing up on a school bus.

The boy is in protective custody.

Online court records don’t show whether Garcia has an attorney. He does not have a listed home telephone number.
