A 17-year-old Maryland boy was arrested for allegedly raping a girl in the hallway of their high school, while other students sat in their morning classes.
The 15-year-old victim has accused Jocori Marece Scarborough of raping her in a Parkside High School hallway at about 8 a.m. Monday, the Daily Times reported.
The victim said “no” multiple times before she was pulled down a hallway by the suspect and sexually assaulted, according to court documents. She reportedly told school administrators about the attack.
Mr. Scarborough faces eight charges, including first- and second-degree rape and first- and second-degree assault and kidnapping. He was arrested and released on $100,000 bond.
“None of [the students] should be subjected to the kind of treatment that’s alleged to have occurred,” school Superintendent John Fredericksen told the paper. “This is just horrible. Our children should be safe, our families should be safe, to do their very best.”
Mr. Fredericksen said the school has 22 specialized programs that are situated down various hallways.
“At any given moment, there may not be people in every nook and cranny of the building,” he said.
The school system has hundreds of cameras in its schools and on buses, he said. He wouldn’t comment on whether the alleged attack was caught on video.
Sgt. David Owens of WBI and Lt. Tim Robinson of the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday that they couldn’t answer questions about the case, because an investigation is ongoing, the Times reported.
