DURHAM, N.C. (AP) - Duke has hired Rene Haynes as an assistant women’s basketball coach.

Haynes had spent the past two years as an assistant at Western Michigan. She will help coach the guards and be a recruiting assistant alongside recruiting coordinator Hernando Planells. She replaces Candice M. Jackson, who became head coach at College of Charleston.

She played under Blue Devils head coach Joanne P. McCallie at Michigan State from 2003-07, including on the 2005 team that reached the national championship game.

Haynes also served as a graduate assistant at Florida State and played professionally overseas.
