BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - A man who shot himself in the leg inside the Buffalo fast-food restaurant he managed has been sentenced to more than three years in prison.

The Buffalo News reports (https://bit.ly/SHtdRe ) that 23-year-old Akeem Wallace was sentenced Thursday to 3½ years for weapon possession. He was found guilty on March 31 in a nonjury tria.

Police say last June he brought an unlicensed loaded handgun to the McDonald’s where he worked as an assistant manager. Officials say he was talking to customers in the dining area when the gun discharged, wounding him in the leg.

Wallace testified that he brought the gun to work because the restaurant had been robbed, but fellow employees contradicted that claim. Prosecutors say he told police he was carrying the weapon because he had been shot at a bus stop.
