OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The Oklahoma Intercollegiate Legislature is honoring its founder, former Gov. George Nigh.
The organization and its foundation will honor Nigh at its 2014 Governor’s Gala on Saturday at the Will Rogers Theatre in Oklahoma City.
The Oklahoma Intercollegiate Legislature was founded in 1969 by then Lt. Gov. George Nigh for students of higher education to learn about the legislative process and the practical problems of state government. It is the largest and one of the longest-running intercollegiate student-led mock legislatures in the U.S.
As the founder of the organization and a well-known leader among generations of Oklahomans, Nigh will be honored with the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Legislature’s Commitment to Excellence in Public Service Award.
Nigh has served as governor of Oklahoma four different times, more than anyone in state history.
