Vice President Joseph R. Biden joked with a journalist Tuesday that he’ll run for president if she joins him on the ticket.

During a meeting in the Oval Office with President Obama and the secretary general of the U.N., reporter Carol Lee of the Wall Street Journal asked Mr. Biden if he intends to run for the Democratic nomination in 2016.

“Only if you’re my running mate,” Mr. Biden replied.

Mr. Obama, asked if he thinks Mr. Biden should run, simply smiled and thanked a reporter for the question. He didn’t answer.

The president and vice president were having lunch after the meeting.
