PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The son of a notorious Philadelphia abortion provider has been sentenced in a burglary that resulted in the younger man being shot last year.

Philly.com reports 23-year-old Barron Alexander — previously known as Barron Alexander Gosnell — was sentenced to 11½ to 23 months in jail and immediately paroled Monday because he’s spent 17 months in jail since his arrest in June 2014.

Mr. Alexander is the son of former abortionist Kermit Gosnell. The 74-year-old is serving life in prison for killing three babies born alive and the overdose death of an abortion patient.

Mr. Alexander broke into a home and stole various electronics, then returned and slashed a resident with a bayonet before he was shot four times by another of the burglary victims.

Mr. Alexander’s attorney says he was “acting out” due to his father’s legal problems.
