Violent demonstrations erupted over the weekend in several Muslim countries. Jihadists demanded the punishment of what is left of the staff of Charlie Hebdo for publishing yet another cartoon of the Prophet Muhammad.
Western leaders, defense officials and intelligence analysts keep telling us that these jihadists don’t understand their faith or are trying to “hijack” it.
In point of fact, what the jihadists practice is known as shariah. And the authorities of Islam confirm what their jihadi followers profess: Shariah is the true faith.
As long as that is the case, it is delusional and sheer folly to engage in a see-no-shariah approach. Worse, such behavior on our part only encourages Islam’s holy warriors to believe they are winning. And that simply means more violence on their part – and more needless death and destruction on ours.
