ANALYSIS/OPINION:

People need to get over the fact that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is a Cowboys fan (“Christie attends Cowboys game as guest, hugs owner,” web, Jan. 5). So are people from all over the United States.

I find it funny that the media is just now trying to make a big deal out of it because of Mr. Christie’s potential White House run. It’s not like he’s the mayor of D.C. and turned his back on the Redskins in favor of the Cowboys. He’s the governor of a state that doesn’t have a football team. No, not everyone from Jersey has to pick the Giants or the Jets because the stadium is in Jersey. Those teams have “New York” in front of their names, not “New Jersey.” If you’re a Philly fan, why do you even care? Mr. Christie isn’t associated with Philadelphia at all other than by the fact that the city is so close to New Jersey.

I really don’t care what team my governor likes or goes to see. I think Mr. Christie is an excellent governor and does his job very well for the people of New Jersey. All you folks who are getting in a lather over Mr. Christie’s going to Dallas Cowboys games ought to just get over it. A lot more important things are going on in both our state and the world, and it’s silly to really make this into a breaking news story.

Perhaps Giants and Jets fans are upset because the Dallas Cowboys are a better team. Keep supporting your New York teams because they play in New Jersey, but remember that New York gets all the credit for their wins. It’s only a game, folks. Mr. Christie has been a Cowboys fan for many years. (By the way, I’m also a die-hard Cowboys fan and I have lived in New Jersey my whole life.)
