GALVESTON, Texas (AP) - Galveston police say 11 out-of-towners face charges in a prostitution and child sex investigation linked to an online sting.
Police Chief Henry Porretto (puh-RET’-oh) says he’s bothered that so many people would travel to the island city “thinking they could get away with that.”
Investigators on Monday announced the arrest of eight men and three women on charges including online solicitation of a minor, prostitution and engaging in organized crime.
Officers last week posed online as minors who portrayed themselves as being in their early teens.
Authorities say the adults who arrived at a Galveston apartment complex, thinking they were meeting with the children, were instead arrested.
