COLLEGE PARK — Maryland guard Lexie Brown has decided to leave the school after two seasons.

Brown averaged 13.3 points per game last season and was selected to the all-Big Ten first team. She was also voted most outstanding player at the Big Ten tournament.

The daughter of former NBA star Dee Brown, Lexie said in a statement released by the school that she wants to pursue playing basketball “at a university closer to my home.”

Brown played high school basketball in Georgia before choosing Maryland over many other schools.

While with Maryland, Brown was part of a team that twice reached the Final Four and won both the Big Ten regular-season title and the tournament championship in 2015.

“We appreciate all of Lexie’s contributions these past two years to our program,” Frese said in the statement. “With two Final Four appearances, a Big Ten regular-season and tournament championship, it’s been an incredible ride. We wish Lexie nothing but happiness and success in her future.”
