WALDORF, Md. (AP) — An off-duty police officer from Prince George’s County has been charged with murder after a child custody dispute is believed to have led to a double shooting that killed a man in the parking lot of a southern Maryland McDonald’s.

Prince George’s County Police Chief Mark Magaw says 26-year-old Richard Conway has been charged with the May 20 murder of 25-year-old Michael Mange and the shooting of Mange’s 24-year-old wife. Police say the woman, who is expected to survive, is the mother of two of Conway’s children and had been in the middle of a custody battle with Conway.

Conway’s mother, 51-year-old Caroline Conway, was charged last week for the shooting.

Police say Conway has worked for the force for three years and is a patrol officer. He has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of the investigations.
