A Sam Houston State University student was arrested after suggesting in a tweet that Harris County deputy Darren Goforth did something to deserve being brutally executed while fueling his patrol car in uniform.

Monica Foy triggered a social media firestorm when she questioned why so many people cared about Mr. Goforth’s death. And she suggested he might have deserved to be shot, adding that he had “creepy perv eyes.”

“I can’t believe so many people care about a dead cop and NO ONE has thought to ask what he did to deserve it. He had creepy perv eyes….”

Ms. Foy tweeted Saturday, the day after Mr. Goforth was killed.

Ms. Foy also tweeted support for #BlackLivesMatter.

Following a barrage of negative comments, Ms. Foy deleted the tweet and later deleter her entire Twitter account.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Brady Fitzgerald said officers received a call claiming Ms. Foy had an outsanding warrant for assault causing bodily harm out of Harris County, The Houston Chronicle reported.

Deputies confirmed the outstanding warrant and arrested Ms. Foy. She was in police custody by the end of the day and was reportedly released on bond around 3 a.m. on Wednesday.

Sam Houston University is now reviewing Ms. Foy’s remarks to determine if she broke the schools code of conduct.

The university has an ongoing commitment to taking actions that strengthen dialog and understanding between our students and the law enforcement community,” the statement said.

Mr. Goforth was ambushed and shot 15 times in the head and back by a gunman who police believe targeted him because he was a police officer.

Police have arrested and charged Shannon J. Miles, 30, in the killing.
