A 17-year-old student at Park View High School in Sterling, Virginia, has died after being shot Friday morning, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said the boy died after being transported to a local hospital with gunshot wounds after the shooting, which was reported at about 8:30 a.m.

Park View had been placed on lockdown after the shooting and other nearby schools had implemented security restrictions as a precaution, The Associated Press reported.

Sheriff Mike Chapman said the victim and suspects knew each other, the AP reported. The Sheriff’s Office has asked any witnesses or people with information to contact them.
