It’s a full size SUV that has luxury written all over it. However, the third row is not as comfortable as one might hope in this Lexus moniker so the eight passenger promise could be a stretch. Otherwise, there is little to grumble about with the 2016 Lexus LX570. In the second row there is more legroom this year with an expanded width and longer length.

Offering a few new tweaks for 2016, the LX570 has a new eight-speed automatic transmission and the styling has been revised with new and improved interior and technology features.

Competition in this market included the Land Rover LR4 and the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class options.

There is only one trim with the LX570 and you get many features that are standard including 20-inch alloy wheels, height-adjustable adaptive suspension, LED exterior lights including fog lights and tail lights as well as automatic wipers, auto-dimming and power-folding mirrors and rearview mirror, front and rear parking sensors, 360-degree surround-view parking camera and rearview camera, sunroof, running boards, roof rack, power lift gate, tow hitch and a keyless ignition.

The high-end interior is also all about comfort from the leather upholstery and wood to the four-zone climate control. There are heated power front seats and second-row window shades and take note of the 60/40-split second-row seat recline and a power-folding third-row seat.

The 120-volt household power outlet is located in the cargo bay and there is a 12.3-inch display with a navigation system and the Lexus Enform system with smartphone services. Other technology on this Lexus is Bluetooth and audio connect with nine speakers and USB ports in the front and second rows.

If you opt for the upgraded Luxury Package, you will get heated and air-conditioned seats in the front and second row and the steering wheel is heated.

Under the hood, the 2016 Lexus LX570 has a 5.7-liter V8 engine that cranks out 383 horsepower and 403 pound-feet of torque powers with the aforementioned eight-speed automatic transmission. This Lexus is four-wheel-drive all the time and the driver-select multi-terrain function will allow you to choose the Drive Mode you want to be in with a variety of options that change the powertrain and suspension functions as needed. You can also tow up to 7,000 pounds with this Lexus.

For safety expect a blind-spot warning system, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning system, antilock brakes, traction and stability control, trailer sway control, active front headrests and airbags that include front seat side, front knee, second-row side and full-length side curtain airbags. There is a pedestrian detection system and the intelligent high-beam control allowing for pre-collisions and this detection will keep you safe inside as well with a braking system and a tightening of the seat belts when a frontal collision is unavoidable. You also get a panoramic-view camera and the Lexus Safety Connect emergency communication that alerts you to the location of the vehicle if stolen and an emergency assist button with roadside assistance.

In the third row of the 2016 Lexus LX570, if you don’t have passengers, you can utilize the 50/50-split design that will allow the seats to be folded against the sides of the cargo compartment. Overall, there is a 1.6 inch increase of legroom for the second row with the longer and wider body configuration.

The nice leather and wood keeps the interior luxurious overall and the dashboard feels good to the touch as does the ambient lighting interior an indulgent experience overall. The Remote Touch also keeps the driver plugged in with all the technology goodies and take note of the new Climate Concierge feature making sure the temperature is always just right including the heated steering wheel on cold days.

Of course, the Lexus drives well on and off road with a luxurious appeal and little outside noise with nary a bump or roars. Take if off road and this Lexus also does a remarkable job with the variety of suspensions. The crawl-control will wow you and it’s safe to say that this 2016 Lexus LX570 it is a good choice on and off road and could take you safely through the apocalypse if needed.

Should You Need to Know: You will love the fact that while it is pure luxury, this 2016 Lexus is also up to the challenge with advanced off-road capabilities.

Miles Per Gallon: Falling a bit short in fuel efficiency you will get 13 miles per gallon in the city and 18 miles per gallon on the highway.

Cost: The 2016 Lexus LX570 I drove had a price tag of $97,405
