EUFAULA, Ala. (AP) - Comedian Steve Harvey’s latex glove facility is expected to reopen by the beginning of June in southeast Alabama.

Al.com reports (https://bit.ly/1qnW1ib ) that Ameritex in Eufaula will be the only latex glove facility in the United States. The company is expected to employ 300 workers.

Gov. Robert Bentley met with Harvey and other business leaders Saturday to celebrate the reopening of the plant. Harvey owns the company with Montgomery businessman Greg Calhoun.

The factory is set up to produce natural rubber latex gloves, using both imported and domestic latexes. Research and development are under way to produce gloves utilizing a family of materials including low protein latexes, synthetic latexes and nitrile.

Ameritex will produce nonsterile and sterile examination gloves and surgical gloves. The factory is currently in its production testing phase.
