COLDEN, N.Y. (AP) - State police say a teenager has died and another has been rescued from a fiery one-car crash on a rural western New York road.

Troopers say 18-year-old Tristan Pleace of Arcade was driving on an Erie County road around 6:30 a.m. Thursday when he lost control at the crest of a hill in the town of Colden, 20 miles southeast of Buffalo.

Police say the car went off the road, hit a ditch, overturned and caught fire. Two motorists who stopped tried to put out the flames with fire extinguishers but had little impact.

They pulled the passenger, 18-year-old Hunter Delia of Yorkshire, from the burning vehicle but were unable to rescue Please, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Delia is in stable condition.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
