SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A judge is expected to decide Thursday whether to make public a juvenile criminal case filed in the death of a police officer who authorities say was fatally struck by a stolen car driven by three teenagers.
A coalition of media outlets is pushing for the release of the sealed documents. Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill has refused to say what charges were filed or who they were filed against.
Police have said a 14-year-old and two 15-year-old males were in a stolen car that struck West Valley City Police Officer Cody Brotherson after he stepped out to lay down spike strips during a chase on Nov. 6.
Many juvenile court hearings in Utah are open to the public, but some proceedings are not publicly accessible.
