GERMANTOWN, Md. (AP) - Montgomery County police say they’ve arrested six teenagers suspected of stealing packages left on people’s doorsteps.

Police say they recovered more than 40 stolen packages, many of them intended to be Christmas gifts. Some of the pilfered goods were reunited with their intended recipients on Thursday at a police station in Germantown.

Three 17-year-olds and an 18-year-old are believed to be responsible for thefts that occurred Dec. 13 in Clarksburg and Dec. 20 in Germantown. Investigators believe the thieves returned some of the stolen items to stores in exchange for cash or store credit.

Later Thursday, police announced the arrest of two more teenagers suspected of stealing packages in separate incidents.
