WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - A judge is holding a pretrial conference involving a man charged in a fatal stabbing at a central downtown plaza in Wilmington.

Friday’s court conference involves the prosecution of Calvin Hooker III, who is charged with first-degree murder and other crimes in the September 2015 killing of 27-year-old Thomas Cottingham.

Authorities say Hooker confronted a 21-year-old woman walking with her infant daughter in a stroller, pulled a knife and chased her around a bus stop at Rodney Square.

Authorities say that as the woman tried to get on a bus, Cottingham intervened and was stabbed repeatedly.

Officers used a stun gun to subdue Hooker after he refused to drop the knife.

Police said the attack appeared to be random.
