PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) - A Portsmouth judge has denied a change-of-bail request for a Hampstead man accused of driving under the influence of heroin and causing a crash that killed a grandmother last month.

WMUR-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2hxQQrY ) the judge on Thursday rejected Todd Gurley’s request to await his trial on negligent homicide and other charges at home with his family.

His attorney says there are many services and circumstances that can be put into place to make sure the community and Gurley are safe.

Police say the 45-year-old Gurley hit a westbound car on Route 111 in Salem. The force of the crash pushed that car into oncoming traffic and it struck another car.

Police say 69-year-old Dorothy Bushek, of Atkinson, died at the scene. She was a passenger in the third car.
