EMPORIA, Va. (AP) - Authorities say an inmate who escaped from a Southside Virginia jail has been recaptured.

According to the Greensville County Sheriff’s Office, 50-year-old Billy Dillon was located a few miles away from Emporia’s Southside Regional Jail around midnight Friday.

Local media report Dillon forced his way through a gate while taking out trash Friday evening.

Court records show Dillon pleaded guilty in September to grand larceny and was ordered to spend three years in prison.
