JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Two inmates in northeast Florida have died in separate incidents that are under investigation.
Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reports say 37-year-old Patricia Marie Affrunti and 63-year-old Melvin C. Brown died Tuesday in the Duval County Jail.
Affrunti was being held for child neglect after police found her and a child unresponsive in the backseat of a car, with the heat turned up. Police say Affrunti’s body was found in an isolation cell, where she had been placed because she was deemed a suicide risk.
Brown was arrested Nov. 7 at a bus station after a police report says he attacked a police officer and resisted arrest. He was found passed out inside his jail cell in the mental health unit after jail guards noticed him hitting his head against the wall.
